International AIDS Day

The Szeged Committee of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations organized a prevention day on 1 December 2014 on the occassion of International AIDS Day.

Teenagers and university students know very little about HIV virus and AIDS prevention. They are the main target groups of this event with the aim of prevention and expanding knowledge about the virus. In the future we are planning to expand our activities to younger generations, starting health education in primary school – said Viola Papp organizer.

The visitors of the programme could listen to lectures on various topics such as the history of the disease, basic information about HIV and AIDS, misbelieves related to them, current tendencies in Hungary and worldwide.

In the health corner of the event guests had the opportunity to get their blood pressure and blood-sugar tested, get health education and healthy diet advice amongst many other programmes. The day was closed by a charity concert.

It’s the mission of the Szeged Committee of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations to call the attention of young people to healthy lifestyle and prevention at various events targeting these generations. Besides their presents at such events and festivals they organize their own programmes as well. They are also working on strengthening the relationship between medical students and population – said Bence Verpeléti, the main organizer of the day. This AIDS programme was carried out by the students of various health sciences of the University of Szeged, the faculty student unions and teachers.
