Professor Benedek was the first scientific Vice-Rector of the University of Szeged between 2000-2003, the Dean of the Faculty for seven years and head of the Department of Physiology for 23 years. The award recognizes his whole academic and scientific performance, the introduction of the English-language medical training, development of international relations. These days he is still actively involved in research and publication; also working on a book about the history of the department.
