Scientific Meeting to Celebrate Prof. Dr. Ferenc Bari’s 70th Birthday

On September 2, 2024, at a scientific meeting held at the Ilona Banga Health Sciences Education Centre, we saluted the distinguished professor and former Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Dr. Ferenc Bari on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

The event was an opportunity to pay tribute to the celebrated professor's outstanding professional career spanning several decades, and to honor him with scientific presentations given by colleagues, friends and former students.

The programme was opened by Prof. Dr. Ferenc Peták, on behalf of the Department of Medical Physics and Informatics, which was founded and headed for the first 10 years by Professor Bari. On behalf of the Rector and the Dean's Office, Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, Vice Rector for Strategic Planning and Prof. Dr. Gábor Németh, Vice-Dean for General Affairs and Professional Training, greeted the Professor highlighting his commitment to science, education and talent management, and praising his decisive role in broadening the international relations and reputation of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School and the University of Szeged.

The first presentations were given by Prof. Dr. Ferenc Peták (current Head of the Department of Medical Physics and Informatics), Prof. Dr. Erika Pintér (Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, University of Pécs) and Prof. Dr. Eszter Farkas (Head of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine, University of Szeged), whose lectures provided an insight into pharmacological and neuroscience research, reflecting on Professor Bari's achievements and the impact of his work in the development of these disciplines.

The second session of the afternoon featured a number of distinguished researchers who have shaped Professor Bari's scientific career, including Prof. Dr. Gábor Jancsó (Professor Emeritus of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Emryology, SZTE) and the American guests Prof. Dr. David Busija and Prof. Dr. Prasad Katakam (Professors at Tulane University in New Orleans), who have played a decisive role in Professor Bari's international scientific network. The symposium was rounded off by Prof. Dr. Ferenc Domoki (Department of Physiology, SZTE), one of Professor Bari's first students, who presented the latest research findings on neonatal hypoxic/ischemic brain injury based on Professor Bari's work.

Following the scientific session, Prof. Bari concluded the event by thanking the audience for their appreciation and continued support of his colleagues and students. At the end of the day, a standing buffet reception provided an opportunity for informal discussions and recollections of the years, experiences and scientific successes shared.


The celebration marked a milestone in the career of Professor Bari, who have made a significant contribution to the development of medicine and its education both in Hungary and abroad.
