A scientific meeting was organised in memory of Dr. István Karády (1904-1974), Professor of Pathophysiology at the Department of Pathophysiology.
On September 2, 2024, at a scientific meeting held at the Ilona Banga Health Sciences Education Centre, we saluted the distinguished professor and former Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Dr. Ferenc Bari on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

At the graduation ceremony of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School on 27 June 2024, András Szabó, sixth-year medical student, did not only receive his diploma from Prof. Dr. György Lázár, Dean of the Medical School, but also received a dean's commendation.
Colleagues, friends and students greeted the 70-year-old Professor Dr. László Dux with a public laudation. The professor, who was the head of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Szeged for 27 years, is still actively involved in public affairs and sets an example of unbroken creative drive to his environment.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Jenő Czigner, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and Head-Neck Surgery at the University of Szeged on 23 November 2023, at the age of 87.
The "Nobel Weeks at the University of Szeged" awareness campaign is launched. "Where knowledge and intention meet" - a series of programmes organised under the motto of the University of Szeged extends beyond the borders of Szeged.
Katalin Karikó's series of achievements shows no signs of slowing down following the recent Nobel Prize announcement. In the past two months, the esteemed research professor at the University of Szeged has garnered numerous recognitions, reclaiming her title as the most influential scientist, maintaining her role as a mentor, earning yet another prestigious award, engaging with celebrities, and contributing to her list of accomplishments by publishing articles about her remarkable autobiography, "Breakthroughs."
On 23 November 2023, the new building of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the University of Szeged (SZTE) was inaugurated. The new five-storey building meets 21st century requirements in all respects, catering for both outpatient and inpatient care. All services previously provided at three separate sites have now been moved to the 2,500-square-metre building.
The new research and education centre of the University of Szeged (SZTE) was inaugurated on 21 November, 2023.
A new dimension of health care has been introduced at the Cardiometabolic Rehabilitation Unit of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Clinical Centre, University of Szeged. The new and innovative approach to patient care, which is unique in Europe as well, is based on remote patient monitoring with telehealth systems.

As the inventor of the modified messenger RNA used in modern vaccines (Covid19), Katalin Karikó was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine together with Drew Weissman, her fellow American research colleague, on the 2nd of October 2023. The announcement of the Nobel Prize winner, Katalin Karikó, one of the most influential scientists of our time is a source of pride for her alma mater, the University of Szeged community.
Levente Szalárdy has been playing the guitar, violin, piano and folk flutes since childhood and he also founded a folk dance group, but in the end he did not choose music as his career.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Dr. Ádám Balogh, former Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Szeged. We will cherish his memory and let it live on.
